Kogi: PDP’s Official Reaction To Bello’s Inauguration

2 Min Read

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described Wednesday’s inauguration of Yahaya Bello as Kogi State Governor as a “slap on democracy”.

The party, in a statement through its National Secretary, Professor Adewale Oladipo, said it was ‘comical’ that a man who did not participate in the overall election and only secured 6885 votes in the so-called supplementary election could be declared winner over the PDP candidate that polled 204,877 votes.

Recall that Yahaya Bello came second in the All Progressives Congress primary that produced Prince Abubakar Audu as gubernatorial candidate but was later handed the party’s ticket after the demise of Audu few hours before the gubernatorial election was declared inconclusive.

However, the PDP argued that the APC could not substitute its candidate in the gubernatorial election when the election had already commenced.

In the statement, PDP described Bello as a “shadow-chasing passerby”,  and emphasized its belief in the judiciary to set the score straight by removing him.

The party statement read in part: “The people of Kogi are aware that the man being paraded by the APC is not the person they exercised confidence in at the election as he scored a paltry 6885 votes in the so-called supplementary election against the 204,877 votes polled by the PDP candidate, Idris Wada in the overall election.”

In the same vein, the party called on its supporters in the state to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the judiciary will restore Captain idris Wada’s mandate.
