Kristen Stewart has weighed in on the debate over the Hollywood pay gap for women.
The 25-year-old actress called the issue ‘boring’ and said it ‘makes sense’ that male actors are paid more because their movies make more at the box office, as she urged women to create more and complain less.
Asked about the lack of female directors and good parts for women, Kristen said it was hard for her to ‘speak to that issue’ because she has had so many great career opportunities.
‘It sounds weird for me to sit around and be like “it’s not fair”,‘ the star told Variety. ‘Guys make more money because their movies make more money… it makes sense.’
She also said women need to ‘do something’ rather than complain about inequality, and pointed out that it’s difficult for anyone, male or female, to get a movie made.
‘If you’re bored or you feel that there’s a lack of something in front of you… instead of sitting around and complaining about that, do something,’ she advised.
‘Go write something, go do something for yourself,’ she told Variety.
‘And that’s easy to say. Like f*** it’s hard to get movies made. It’s a huge luxury. Who gets to just make movies?‘
‘That subject is just so prevalently everywhere right now, and it’s boring,’ she added.
