Hero: Muslim Who Shielded Christians From Islamist Terrorists Dies

1 Min Read

A Muslim man, Salah Farah, who shielded Christians from being killed by al-Shabab Islamist terrorists on a bus in Kenya has died.

Farah, a teacher, was shot by the terrorists after he refused to heed a warning that Muslims split from the Christians on the bus in the town of Mandera.

In the past, Muslims had been spared in similar attacks in which Christians were killed.

Farah died in a hospital in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

He told the BBC shortly after he was shot that the attackers had offered him an escape route but he refused.

“We asked them to kill all of us or leave us alone,” he told local newspaper Daily Nation.

The remains of the deceased Farah, who has been described by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet as a “true hero”, has been taken to his native Mandera for burial.

Before his death, Farah was quoted by Voice of America as saying that Christians and Muslims should live in harmony.

“We are brothers,” he said.
