Reports reaching The Herald indicate that the military plans to put up a panel this week to look into the cases of officers implicated in the recent arms scandal.
The EFCC is probing 17 serving and retired officers, including Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (former Chief of Defence Staff), Air Marshal Dikko Umar and Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (former Chiefs of Air Staff).
If the military panel is set up, the affected officers will face it in addition to dealing with the EFCC.
The 11 serving officers are Air Marshal A.M. Mamu
(Chief of Administration, Nigeria Air Force); AVM Oguntoyinbo (former Director of Production, Defence Headquarters); AVM T. Omenyi (Managing Director, NAF Holdings); and AVM J.B. Adigun (former Chief of Accounts and Budget).
Others are AVM R. A. Ojuawo (Air Force Tactical Air Command, Markudi); AVM J.A. Kayode-Beckley (Director, Armament Research in Air Force Research and Development Centre); Air Cdre. A.O. Ogunjobi; Air Cdre G.M.D. Gwani; Air Cdre A.Y. Lassa; Col. N. Ashinze (Special Assistant to the former NSA, Dasuki;) and Air Cdr. S.O.Makinde.
Last year President Buhari set up a committee to audit the purchase of defence equipment between 2007 and 2015. The committee reported that the military received over N1 trillion for equipment between 2007 and 2015, but that the money was largely diverted by top officers in the military.
