INEC Registers Over 21,000 New Voters in Abuja

1 Min Read

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that over 21,000 Nigerians have been registered as eligible voters during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration in Abuja.

Addressing journalists shortly after an inspection tour of some of the registration centres in Abuja on Friday, it said that the commission will consider beefing up facilities for the voter registration and to possibly extend the deadline for the exercise.

On the day three of the voter registration exercise, the INEC chairman said more than 21,000 new eligible voters have so far registered under the Continuous Voter Registration exercise currently going on in the FCT.

He said out of the 21,000 new voters, about 12,000 are male while the female adds up to 9,000 others.

Yakubu said that the commission is going back to hold a meeting to address the shortcomings observed.

“One of the things we observed is that we need addition data capture machine to match the number of people and another is the demand for the extension of the period of registration. But we are going to tackle the issue of providing more machines first before considering extension, ” he said.
