After several hours of marching and protests in Abuja by the Bring Back Our Girls Campaigners, the Buhari-led Federal government has finally agreed to meet with the campaigners.
The Chibok girls have been in captivity for over 600 days and the Federal Government has disclosed to Nigerians that there is no actionable intelligence on the whereabouts of the girls.
Before the secret meeting commenced, President Buhari reportedly ordered out all members of the press from the State House after it was widely reported that his Minister for Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan was reportedly rude to the parents of the Chibok girls and other campaigners present.
Leader of the rights group, Oby Ezekwesili, speaking on Al-hassan’s actions had said, “You have been very unfair to us. I don’t understand why you can be chiding the parents and the movement. These parents were triggered by the words of the president who promised to rescue their daughters.”
Recall President Buhari had stated that rescuing the Chibok girls would be one of his top priorities and it was one of the campaign promises that say former President Jonathan defeated and he elected.
Eze, a political analyst from Lagos said it was imperative PResident Buhari met with the Chibok parents and campaigners in secret so as not to draw the kind of public outrage attracted by the former President on the issue which was not properly managed by the latter’s media team.
