Pope Francis has said that the church must embrace gay people because no one should be defined by their sexuality.
He said people should be “treated with delicacy and not marginalised,” because “before all else comes the individual person in his wholeness and dignity”.
In his new book, “The Name of God is Mercy” which takes the form of an extended conversation with Andrea Tornielli, the Italian journalist and Vatican watcher, the Pope urged Christians to “overcome prejudice and rigidity”.
The Pope also described himself as a sinner in need of God’s mercy. He also revealed that he might have ended up in jail of the circumstances of his life had been different.
He shared the message of infinite mercy of God saying that God “does not exist to condemn people.”
