The Presidency has denied speculations about the planned ban on Hijab worn by Muslim women in the country.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Malam Garba Shehu.
Shehu insisted that the speculations are unfounded because President Muhammadu Buhari will not take such decision without consulting relevant stakeholders in the Nigerian society.
Shehu noted that the Hijab was being used by terrorists to carry out suicide attacks on innocent people.
He said “Everything will be done to balance national security requirements with the rights and obligations of citizens under their religions as protected by the constitution.”
He added that the President will address the security challenge in the country by consulting with Muslim leaders to find workable solution.
