Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is returning to WrestleMania!

2 Min Read

After stepping away from the ring and focusing on other pursuits, The Rock – real name Dwayne Johnson – is cooking up a return to WrestleMania when the annual event takes place in Dallas next year.

The professional wrestler, 43, announced the news to his excited fans via Instagram on Monday, promising to ‘make history’ as he shared a montage of some of his greatest moments in the ring.

Featuring some of his most iconic moves such as The People’s Elbow and The Rock Bottom, he inflicts some damage in the throwback video, which sees him victoriously waving the WWE title above his head.

‘It’s official: People’s Champ is coming home to do three things with the people: set an all-time attendance record, electrify Dallas like never before & make all time #Wrestlemania history,’ he captioned the clip.

Despite retiring in 2004, The Rock has made several returns to the ring in recent years.

One of his most notable fights came in 2011, when he took on, and beat, heavyweight champion John Cena, after a long feud that started with The Rock calling him a ‘big fat bowl of fruity pebbles’.

The Rock, who was crowned as the funniest WWE superstar in history, was also the first wrestler to win the WWF/E Championship seven times.

And the star has not only headlined headlined five Wrestlemania events and wrestled in five additional others, but in 2011, he became the first wrestler to ever host the event.

Last year, The Rock appeared in the opening segment of the annual pay-per-view wrestling show alongside fellow veterans, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan.

But despite his continued involvement in the sport, The Rock has cut down on his wrestling appearances, going by the name of Dwayne and focusing on his acting career.

The American and Canadian actor has starred in several high profile films, including the Fast and Furious franchise and playing the titular character in Hercules.
