A 31-year-old man has been sentenced at a Kuje Area Court in the FCT to four and half months in prison for attempting to steal cartons of beer.
Yahaya Ahmed of Anguwan Ekwa, Zuba, Abuja, was convicted for joint act, criminal trespass and attempt to commit an offence punishable under sections 97, 348 and 95 of the Penal Code.
However, the presiding judge, Mr Nuhu Ibrahim, gave him an option to pay N9,000 fine.
“You are hereby sentenced to one month imprisonment each under sections 97, 95 and two and half months under section 348, totaling four and a half months imprisonment.
“You have an option to pay the sum of N9, 000 as fine,” Ibrahim said.
Police prosecutor Samuel Ochefu told the court that Emanuel Augustine of Anguwan Tiv in Kuje reported the matter at the Kuje Police Station on February 13.
The prosecutor said Ahmed and two others, now at large, jointly entered the complainant’s deport in Kuje and attempted to steal cartons of beer.
