Popular musician Olamide held the second edition of his live in concert series (OLIC 2) at the prestigious Eko and Suites Hotel Lagos yesterday night. The first edition held in 2014. This year’s version which was tagged ‘Beast Mode’ had in attendance many comedians and musicians alike.
The show which was broadcast live on Soundcity and HipTV had some very interesting and not so interesting moments. The Herald presents some of them:
The Stage
The stage used at the concert this year was not your normal kind of stage. Models would have felt comfortable on it as it was designed like a runway. Still, this did not prevent the musicians and comedians who performed on the night from having a good time thoigh we could sense that some of them were getting tired from the running around they had to do.
Olamide performed with a Live Band
Olamide chose not to go the easy way of having his tracks played while he sang along to them. Instead he performed a medley of his hit songs live. Kudos to the band that played with him to as they also brought on their A- Game.
Olamide the Boy Scout
During one of his performances, the crowd was treated to an impromptu display from the Lagos arm of the Boy Scout Club. They also inducted Olamide into the Boy Scouts…Right there on stage!
Wizkid, Davido no shows
Even though the show advertised that both Wizkid and Davido were to perorm during the night, unfortunately they did not show up. No reason has been given but bear in mind that They were both present at the show in 2014.
The Most Attended Show of 2015!
While doing his act during the show, comedian Basketmouth stated that “Olamide’s concert was the most attended event of 2015” this leads to our next point.
Rowdiness Galore
When you are as popular as Olamide, then rowdiness is expected at any show you headline. At a point during the show it was hard to determine who was a VIP and who was not because the VIP section was overwhelmed with hordes and hordes of dancing fans.
Short Performances
Every entertainer who took the stage yesterday kept to time. Including those that had 2 or 3 songs to perform and they somehow made it work.
Chinko Ekun’s superb freestyle
Even though most people do not know Chinko Ekun, I’m sure by now his popularity status would have increased after his performance yesterday. The rapper has a couple of songs to his name including some Olamide features but no one had seen what he could really do until yesterday. For over 4 minutes, he reeled out punch line after punch line. Chinko is definitely one to watch.
Eva’s performance
Eva Alordiah brought something different to the show. While her colleagues were content with just performing by themselves, Eva went the other way as she performed with about 6 hefty male dancers. It was very refreshing to watch.
Instagram Skit
Popular Instagram stars Oluwa Kaponeski aka Mama Tobi, Aphrican Ape, Iya Ibadan and Craze Clown put together a live skit. Just like they do on the ‘gram, they made everyone in the audience laugh.
