Yaya Toure Wins BBC African Footballer Of The Year 2015; Equals Okocha’s, Kanu’s Record

After being awarded the 2015 BBC African Footballer of the Year Award for the second time, Ivory Coast and Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure has equally the record held by Nigerians, Nwankwo Kanu and Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha.

The Nigerians were the only persons to have won the award twice before the Ivorian’s success on Friday.

He fought off competition from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon/Borussia Dortmund and 2014’s winner Yacine Brahimi of Algeria/FC Porto.

While talking to the BBC, the 32-year-old said: “African football is growing up, becoming much better and we have fantastic young players coming through now.

“For me, to be the winner today, I am delighted and very happy. And as an African player, I want to lead all my younger brothers to be successful in the future.”

Toure, who first won the award in 2013, helped his country to its first CAF African Cup of Nations in 23 years with victory over Ghana in the February final.
