Former Finance Minister and the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has released a memo concerning the $2bn Arms Deal saga in order to clear her name.
In an email sent to Vanguard, she noted that Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole and other compromised persons have embarked on a media campaign of falsehood against her.
The email read “They have distorted the contents of the January 20 memo in which she responded to a request by the former National Security Adviser and quoted selectively from the document to make their false allegations of “illegal diversion” of funds.”
“Dr Okonjo-Iweala is a transparent person of integrity and patriotic professional who worked hard to protect the interest of the country and that her accusers are purveyors of falsehood on a political mission to tarnish an innocent patriot.”
Oshiomhole has insisted that Okonjo-Iweala be prosecuted for her involvement in the arms deal.
While speaking recently at the State House in Abuja after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, he said “So for the Ministers of Finance, including Okonjo – Iweala, I don’t care what people say because you cannot be coordinating a corruption-ridden economy and you pretend to be an angel.
“You cannot selectively deal with issues; you must deal with all involved in the conspiracy. In criminal law when two to three people are involved in a act of criminality, all of them are charged with conspiracy.”
