A female food vendor and a scavenger have been arraigned by the police before an Abuja Grade 1 Area court over alleged theft and receiving suspected stolen property in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
Asabe Garba, 32, and Rabiu Abdulahi, 23, all of Kubwa were charged with theft and receiving stolen property, offences contrary to sections 286 and 317 of the Penal code.
The police prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that one Samaila Ayodele of Osun State, on November 20, reported at the Kubwa Police Station that one of the accused, Rabiu Abdulahi acted in a dubious manner and stole two truck batteries valued at N35,000.
He said the suspect was, however, arrested while trying to escape with the said items, adding that Abdullahi had sold four stolen generators to his Garba, suspected to be his accomplice.
According to the prosecutor, the said generators were recovered from her during police investigation.
When the charge was read to the scavenger, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months imprisonment by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with an option of N10,000 fine.
The food vendor, however, denied the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with one reasonable surety, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to January 27, 2016 for hearing.
