Blood thirsty robbers who attacked the residence of an expatriate at Apapa, Lagos State on Sunday night, have killed two soldiers and left one soldier critically injured.
Reports say the success of the robbery was due to the fact that the robbers used another expatriate as a decoy to gain entrance to the victim’s building.
It was gathered that as soon as the robbers entered the building, they shot sporadically into the air, while other members of the gang stormed the victim’s rooms, ransacking everywhere.
Luckily, the victim who resides close to Command Guest House, which belongs to the Nigerian Army, was not hurt.
The robbers were said to have made away with some of his valuables.
According to an eye witness report, when soldiers on guard at the Command Guest House heard the shootings, one of them opened the gate and the robbers, on sighting him, opened fire.
The soldier died on the spot. Another of his colleagues was also killed, while a third soldier’s leg was shattered by bullets.
It was learnt that some mobile policemen attached to a popular hotel in the area, who were attracted by gunshot sounds, engaged the robbers in a gun battle.
The robbers later fled in the victim’s jeep.
It was learnt that the soldier, whose leg was shattered, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
