A former member of the Board of Trustees of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Paul Emeka has been summoned to appear before an Abuja Upper Area Court over allegations of certificate forgery levelled against him by the church.

Rev. Emeka, who is a former General Superintendent of the church, is expected to appear before the court on December 1, a court summons dated November 16 showed.

He has been accused of misleading the church in claiming that he was a Professor from the University of Derby, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom, and presenting a professorial certificate which the church claims was forged.

The accused was reportedly made a member of the church’s BoT based on the claim, the legal representative of the church, Ifeanyichukwu Obasi-Nweze, said in his criminal complaint to the court.

Rev. Emeka was allegedly removed as a member of the BoT after the church’s check of the University’s Conferment Committee Archives failed to turn up any result for any “Paul Emeka”.

After his removal as BoT member, the matter was then reported to the police for investigation.

A police report on the investigation into the matter is also expected to be presented before the court on the date of Rev. Emeka’s arraignment.
