Widespread reports have been circulating concerning the departure of Empire Mates Entertainment frontman, Wizkid from the label. Several major publications (not The Herald) carried the story over the last week fueling unsubstantiated belief in the rumour.
Founder of EME, R&B superstar, Banky W put those reports to bed in an interview with Silverbird television.
According to him, Wizkid is still signed to Empire Mates Entertainment and there is only a renegotiation of the contract initially signed by Wizkid to make room for his international expansion.
He said, “Wizkid is going international and as a result we have to re-negotiate the contract he signed. Wizkid has his own idea of how he wants to do things and he has plans for himself too. Wizkid is still with us, there’s no problem, things will be sorted out soon.”
Industry observers are confirming this version of events. One source explained, “Banky W groomed Wizkid to the level he is now and provided a platform, there is obviously a level of camaraderie involved between both parties which can be misconstrued by the media and people hyping minute details like tweets. However there is also a business relationship which is legal in nature and has to be maintained.”
