Seventy-two persons have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State over allegations of possession of illicit drugs including Indian hemp.
Also, a total of 13,498 kilograms of illicit drugs were recorded from the suspects.
This was disclosed by the Edo State Commandment of the NDLEA, Wakama Buba who spoke to newsmen on Wednesday.
He said the suspects were apprehended in different areas of the state capital, Benin.
According to him, the suspects were arrested between September and November 17, 2015, in six different vehicles used to convey the drugs.
Wakama said that the drugs were usually planted in hard-to-reach areas, making it difficult for law enforcement agents to apprehend the growers.
He declared that Indian hemp, which is scientifically called cannabis sativa, is the most popular of the illicit drugs peddled in the state.
