Probe PPPRA over Import Allocations – Oil Marketers Tell Buhari

2 Min Read

As fuel scarcity in most parts of the nation bites harder, some oil marketing and trading companies have accused the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) of keeping sealed lips over the names of the companies awarded contracts to import petrol into the country in the fourth quarter of 2015 and the criteria for such awards.

Hinting at shady and under-hand dealings, the companies have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to institute a probe into the PPPRA’s activities in line with his resolve to enthrone a culture of transparency.

According to THISDAY, the companies have also challenged the PPPRA to make public information surrounding the awards of contracts to oil marketing companies to import petrol into the country in the fourth quarter of 2015.

The aggrieved oil marketers are accusing the PPPRA of issuing import allocations to marketing companies that did not import products in the third quarter, while prominent ones who have performed creditably well have been ignored.

However, an official in the PPPRA who spoke under condition of anonymity accused the media of arrogance in assuming that information not published in the media had not been made public.

The official said information about the fourth quarter allocations, including beneficiaries of contracts and volume of allocations have been published in the Federal Government’s Gazzette.
