Kogi Guber Poll: Police Uncover Plot To Clothe Thugs In Police Uniform

2 Min Read

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has exposed a plan by some mischievous politicians to dress thugs in police uniform with the aim of disrupting the forthcoming Kogi gubernatorial elections.

The IG made this known at a stakeholder’s forum on Tuesday, where he sounded a note of warning to those trying to test the might of the police through the scheme.

While describing the plot as a “wrong and wasteful investment”, Arase said the police had put measures in place to properly identify the 12,000 policemen that will be on duty during the election.

He said that half of the total number of the policemen will be drawn from police formations around Kogi, while explaining that one unit of mobile policemen will be drafted to each of the 21 LGAs in the state.

He also said that Assistant Inspector-General in charge of Zone 8, Mr Lawal Tanko and three commissioners of police would be deployed to monitor the situation before, during and after the election.

Arase equally stressed that the police will be further assisted by the military, Civil Defence Corps, Immigration, Customs and Road Safety.

The IG urged the residents of the state to ensure that they exercise their voting right, stating that their security would not be in doubt.

The Kogi gubernatorial election is scheduled for November 21.
