2 Min Read

The Nigerian Police Force has arrested a make-believe couple who specialize in trans-border arms supply to criminals in Nigeria and in the West African sub region.

The suspects, Mr. Daniel Ofori, a Ghanaian and his Nigerian counterpart, Ms. Olufumolayo Adeyemo, were arrested at Idi Iroko, Ogun State.

Speaking on the arrest, the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Frank Mba, a Chief Superintendent of Police, said a cache of 5,564 live cartridges was recovered from the duo at the Idi Iroko border in Ogun state.

Mba said: “The Nigeria Police Force last week arrested one Daniel Ofori, a Ghanaian and one other Olufumolayo Adeyemo, both of whom reside in Accra, Ghana and are suspected to be behind the supply of arms and ammunition to criminal groups operating in parts of the country. The suspects were arrested at Idi Iroko, Ogun State, a town bordering Nigeria and the Republic of Benin. “A total of 5,564 rounds of live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.”

The suspects who claimed to have taken off from Ghana via Benin Republic, en route Lagos, are now being investigated by detectives from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar.”

It was gathered that the recovered cartridges were neatly concealed in the engine compartment and the inner crevices of the chassis of a Mercedes Benz 420 SE saloon car which was driven by Ofori.

The Force PRO disclosed that the suspects were arrested by a police border patrol team along Atan – Idi Iroko road.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects following a raid on a local arms manufacturing factory believed to be responsible for the supply of lethal weapons to armed robbers, kidnappers and other criminal gangs in the South-west, South-south and South-east region.
