Governors Plan Two Day Retreat To Deliberate On Insecurity As Dasuki Warns Of Backlash From Mali

2 Min Read

The Nigerian Governors Forum has decided to embark on a two day retreat in order to discuss solutions to the challenge of national insecurity in the country.

The retreat is designed to be a think tank session on innovative ways to deal decisively with the rising security threats in the country. The move comes even as the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki has warned that countries, including Nigeria involved in the ongoing military operations in Mali should expect possible backlash from the Malian terrorists.

Dasuki recalled the recent killing of foreign hostages in an Algerian oil and gas factory.

“It thus behoves Nigeria and other participating countries to take additional security measures to protect their interests worldwide and to also heighten security at the various strategic points in their various countries”, Dasuki added.

The NSA sounded the warning yesterday at the National Defence College where he attended a security seminar organised by the alumni association of the College.

Governor Rotimi Amaechi, the head of the Nigerian Governors Forum said, “Forum agreed to hold a two-day retreat to deliberate on the current state of security of the country.”

Speaking on when the forum will be held, Amaechi said, “the committee is working on it. When the committee brings in their report we will fix a date.”
