The proposed meeting between governors of the South East geo-political zone, Ohaneze Ndigbo and pro-Biafra groups may not hold after all, as a faction of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has threatened not to honour the meeting if detained Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu is not released.
A stakeholders meeting had been called to seek an amicable solution to the incessant clamour by pro-Biafra groups for the creation of a sovereign nation.
In a statement on Tuesday, Director of Information for the factional MASSOB, Uchenna Madu, said it would not feel right for such a meeting to be conveyed without all the groups championship the cause of the creation of a sovereign Republic of Biafra being in attendance.
“We support the meeting of the South East governors and Ohaneze Ndigbo, with pro-Biafra groups to douse the tension, but we believe that such a meeting cannot take place while Nnamdi Kanu is still in detention.
“The continued detention of Kanu, non compliance with Biafra demands will continue to haunt, frustrate and diminish Nigeria’s image before the international community,” the statement read.
He also identified the continued protests by pro-Biafra groups in the South East and South South as one other hindrance to the success of any proposed meeting.
