Tragedy struck on Saturday when a 26-year-old man, reportedly beheaded his cousin over a meal disagreement.
According to an eye witness report, Averson Ambi, beheaded his cousin, Mrs Naira Yahanna with a sword because of the unpalatable meal he claimed was served to him by the deceased.
It was learnt that the killer, who hails from Nassarawa state, was said to have been dismissed from the services of the Nigeria Police sometime ago in Kaduna where he was serving and consequently became jobless and resorted to excessive drinking of the local gin.
The deceased a 22-year-old mother of two children had come to seek refuge in the residence of Averson’s father on Queen of Apostles School road, Shinge– Lafia from the ongoing Eggon/Fulani feud at Bassa district in Kokona Local Government Area of Nassarawa state.
Sources say that after Averson beheaded his cousin, he went on a rampage which led to the death of his dog and a cow belonging to his father, Mr. Joseph Ambi. It was learnt that he also attacked his friend and left him with multiple cuts leading to his admission into an undisclosed hospital in Lafia.
The Nassarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Micheal Ada, who confirmed the incident, said the culprit has been arrested and detained. He further added that a medical examination was being carried out on him to determine his state of mind as of the time of his committing the crime.
