Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have progressed to the finals of the on-going FIFA U-17 tournament held in Chile following a 4-2 win over Mexico in a tightly contested match.
Mexico opened the scoring through a low drive from Magana as the Nigeria’s defenders went to sleep.
However, Nwakali restored parity for the defending champions with a terrific freekick after the Mexicans dominated for the opening 30 minutes of the game.
Okonkwo then put Nigeria ahead with two minutes remaining in the first 45 with a superb strike from 25 yards out.
With fourteen minutes into the second half, Diego Cortes scored a magnificent goal to get Mexico back on level terms as he dribbled five Nigerians to find the net in what could be the goal of the tournament.
Cortes effort did not last long as Ebere put the Eaglets back in front in the 67th minute and a completely shut out Osimhen secured the victory with a well taken penalty in the 82nd minute after John Lazarus was taken down in the box.
Nigeria now head to Vina Del Mar on Sunday for an all-African final against continental champions Mali on November 8, while Mexico will face off against Belgium in the match for third place earlier the same day.
