65 Deported Nigerians Arrive In Lagos

No less than sixty-five Nigerians were deported from some European countries on Friday, an official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria reliably said in Lagos.

The official, who refused to be named while speaking at the cargo section of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, disclosed that the deportees came mostly from the United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria and Romania.

The deportees who arrived at 7.04am, he said, were made up of 48 males, 12 females and five children and they were arrested for having expired documents and being illegal aliens.

The source disclosed that in addition to those, eight of the deportees including three females were deported for alleged criminal offences.

Those eight were immediately arrested on arrival by policemen, and were taken to the Criminal Investigation Department, Nigeria Police Force, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos in a pick-up van with vehicle tags “Ontario AZKC-549”.

It was initially reported by a NAN correspondent at the airport that 5 of the deportees had resisted arrest, but were later persuaded to cooperate by the police.
