FG To Blame For North’s Underdevelopment – Buhari

2 Min Read

A former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has blamed President Jonathan’s administration for the spate of insecurity, socio-economic and political instability and educational backwardness of the north.

Buhari made this known at the opening of a two-day summit held at Africa House, Government House, Kano on the strategy for a constructive engagement to save the collapsing northern economy, socio-political and educational standard.

For that reason, he charged the northern elite to give the federal government a wakeup call to its responsibility of ensuring safety of lives and property of the people in the northern region.

“No nation can survive when majority of its citizen’s wobble in abject poverty and educational backwardness” he said.

Meanwhile, former Director General, Military Intelligence, Brigadier-General Ibrahim Alhaji Sabo (rtd) who was also at the summit, said that with the emergence and horrible activities of Boko Haram, the temptation must be restricted because it’s very misleading and with or without Boko Haram, the north has always been very insecure.

“I believe that the security challenges in the north is a creation of recycled northern leaders and elite who are more concerned with protecting their personal interest than that of the vulnerable youth,” he stressed.

Dr. Alhaji noted that when intra-religious disputes took inter-religious dimensions and later ethno- religious dimensions, it complicates the insecurity in the north that is now being blamed on Boko Haram.

He said these have not removed the reality that hunger, injustice and poor governance are fertile grounds for violence.
