Volkswagen Discovers 800k More Emission Cases

1 Min Read

Just after it announced that it had set aside $7.6bn for the recall of the 11 million vehicles affected by the emissions scandal, Volkswagen has said that 800,000 more cars may have been hit with the same problems.

This latest discovery is expected to set the world’s biggest auto maker behind by a further $2.2bn, and is the first time that petrol-powered vehicles will be mentioned as being affected by the scandal.

The company announced on Tuesday that it found “unexplained inconsistencies” in the carbon dioxide emissions in the new cases.

Unlike the initial discovery that was made by the United States’ Environmental Protection Agency, this discovery was a result of an internal investigation.

Volkswagen listed the diesel models affected in the latest discovery to include Golf, Passat, A1 and A3, Skoda Octavia and others.

The company did not however specify the petrol-powered models.

Since the onset of the emissions scandal, Volkswagen shares have continued to take a knock.
