Santos Seek FIFA Ban For Former Player, Neymar

2 Min Read
Neymar

There is trouble at home for Barcelona forward, Neymar, as his Brazilian former club, Santos, have urged FIFA to ban him for 6 months over non-compliance with terms of his contract during his transfer.

According to Brazilian paper O Globo, Santos are asking for €55 million in damages, alongside the ban because Neymar did not keep his end of the bargain agreed during the contract talks.

The paper quoted club president, Modesto Roma Jr. as saying the suit was less “against Neymar” and more “in favor of the club”.

The club are reportedly invoking Article 17 of the FIFA transfer rules regarding the consequences of termination of contract without just cause, ESPN reported.

The FIFA transfer rules state: “In addition to the obligation to pay compensation, sporting sanctions shall also be imposed on any player found to be in breach of contract during the protected period. This sanction shall be a four-month restriction on playing in official matches. In the case of aggravating circumstances, the restriction shall last six months.”

A FIFA committee will now decide whether there is sufficient evidence to suspend the Barcelona star, ESPN reported.

This puts the forward in more predicament considering that a court in Brazil earlier ordered his assets and those of his family and businesses, valued at $48million dollars, seized.
