Buhari vows to end insurgency, receives Abuja bombing briefing

2 Min Read

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his administration’s commitment to putting an end to extremism in the country.

He stated this on Saturday in reaction to Friday’s multiple bomb blasts in parts of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja which reportedly claimed 20 lives and left at least 41.

According to Mallam Garba Shehu who is the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Buhari expressed this on Saturday after receiving a briefing by the presidential fact-finding team sent to assess the level of damage done by the bomb blasts.

President Buhari who commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and sustained injuries as a result of the blast, took a swipe at the terrorists behind the bombings, describing the bombings as the desperate acts of a losing side.

Furthermore the President noted that extremism is the cause of violence in the country, stating that “the defeat of Boko Haram insurgency is in sight but to remove violence and make the country safe, we must tackle the prevalence of violent extremism.

He commended security agencies for their tenacity in the face of numerous challenges posed by the activities of the terrorists but challenged them to raise the game in the area of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

President Buhari equally commiserated with the families of those who have been killed or maimed in the series of bombings carried out in Borno state.
