The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana has urged the personnel of the corps to exercise more vigilance in the discharge of their duties, while appealing to the public to be security conscious in their daily activities.
He gave this charge while inspecting scenes of Friday’s multiple bomb blasts in Abuja, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
According to the statement by the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Mr Emmanuel Okeh, the Commandant-General directed the men of the corps to pay particular attention to the protection of national assets and critical infrastructure.
He said, “We must redouble our efforts in the provision of maximum security by becoming extra vigilant to deny undesirable elements from wreaking havoc on innocent citizens.’’
Furthermore, the NSCDC boss called for greater partnership among all the security agencies involved in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency, stating that the war on terror can only be won with greater cooperation among all the agencies.
The multiple bombings in Kuje and Nyanya districts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja claimed at least 18 lives and left around 41 injured.
Although no group has claimed responsibility for the bombings, it is widely believed it is the handiwork of Boko Haram terrorists, as the attacks conform to the group’s pattern of guerrilla-style attacks.
