The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrested 8,004 offenders nationwide during the just-concluded Eid-el-Kabir patrol.
Mr Bisi Kazeem, Corps Commander and Head, Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC, disclosed this, on Wednesday, in Abuja in an interview with newsmen.
He said that the ‘robust patrol’ during the period yielded positive results with the arrest of several offenders.
“We recorded 44 deaths during the Sallah patrol and we are determined to further reduce it in subsequent operations.
“Currently, we have reduced the record from the 57 deaths recorded during same period in 2014. We arrested 8,004 offenders for violating 9,045 offences during the Sallah period which ran between September 21 and 28.
” About 671 offenders were arraigned at various mobile courts across the country while 619 were convicted while one person was imprisoned in Kuje prison,” Kazeem said.
The commander said that 51 motorists arrested during the period were discharged and acquitted by the courts while 4,518 vehicles were impounded.
According to him, the offences committed by the motorists range from dangerous overtaking, use of mobile phone while driving, unlashed containers and other traffic violations.
