A man and two women, have been sentenced by an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court has sentenced to nine months imprisonment each for smoking three wraps of Indian hemp.
The convicts, Friday Timothy, 22, Chioma Joseph, 20 and Sandra Sunday, are all residents of Karu Park, Abuja.
Mr. Francis Udofia the police prosecutor, told the court that on June 27, intelligence report at the disposal of the Nigeria Police Divisional Headquarters, Karu, revealed the hideout of the convicts.
Udofia said the convicts, at Olimas Guest Inn, Karu Park, criminally conspired and carried out the act which endangered and annoyed the people of the neighborhood.
The prosecutor said that the police, armed with the information, swung into action and three wraps of Indian hemp were recovered from the convicts in their hotel rooms.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), when the charge was read to them, the trio pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency.
Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Ahmed Shuaibu sentenced each of the convicts to three months’ imprisonment for the offence of joint act and six months for smoking Indian hemp.
Shuaibu, however, gave them an option of N2, 000 fines each and advised them to desist from criminal acts.
