The police in Ebonyi State have on Saturday released some innocent suspects in Abakiliki who had been arrested in connection with the kidnap of a man on Dec 21.
Mr Franklin Ajah had been kidnapped by some armed men at Ugwuachara part of Abakiliki while he was on an inspection of his building project. He was later discovered in a house at the Mgbukobe area of the town after the kidnappers had been paid an undisclosed sum of money as ransom.
The police spokesman, Mr Sylvester Igbo said that the command had set up an ambush on the building where the hostage had been held and arrested some suspects.
“After employing what is known as ‘Judge’s rule’ to screen the several suspects arrested, those not connected to the case were released,” he said.
He however said that two persons have been linked directly to the case and will be charged to court once the investigations were completed.
However, he declined to confirm the payment of ransom for Ajah’s release even though family sources reaffirmed that a ransom had been paid.
The police spokesman assured citizens of the state of the readiness of the command to secure citizes adequately at all times.
