Boko Haram Negotiations: Ganduje Urges Buhari to Exercise Caution

Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje

Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to exercise caution when negotiating with the Boko Haram sect so as not to dialogue with fake Boko Haram members.

Ganduje, who spoke with State House correspondents on Friday at the Presidential Villa said “I hope when we negotiate with them, we are negotiating with the correct people.

“Experience has shown that they have so many factions and if we are not lucky, we may be dealing with the wrong faction. Whatever it is, I believe the security agencies should have intelligence information to know what type of people we are dealing with.”

Ganduje also commended the President’s renewed efforts to bring an end to insurgency in the country.

He noted that the terrorist group has many factions, that is why security agencies should ensure that the federal government is negotiating with the right faction.

Meanwhile newly appointed Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs in Borno state, Hon. Usman Zannah has ordered his staff to constantly visit Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in the state.

Zannah said this not long after he was handed the affairs of the Ministry, he said “We just visited some IDP camps this morning with Governor Kashim Shettima and some of needs of the victims can be addressed at the ministry level if our staff are always there to monitor the plight of the IDPs.

“The lingering crisis of insurgency has led to destruction of many government and public structures such as schools, hospitals, clinics, offices, markets and business centres, it will require billions of naira to rebuild and resettle our destroyed local government areas, therefore the task is enormous on all of us as government to put hands on deck in order to confront these challenges.

“I was elected as Chairman of Magumeri Local Government area, I was also appointed as Caretaker Chairman for the same local Government for three times, and so, my coming here as Commissioner is like a homecoming. “I am not new to the system but the thing most important is that I will not tolerate indiscipline, laziness and above all corruption.”

A few days ago, Buhari announced that his administration is negotiating with members of the sect so as to secure the release of over 200 Chibok girls who were abducted over a year ago.
