Heavy Rains Stop US Open Semi-Finals, Matches To Be Played Today

The women’s semi-finals of the US Open was abandoned yesterday following the heavy rain in New York and will be played today.

World number one and top seed Serena Williams was due to face Italy’s Roberta Vinci, with second seed Simona Halep set to meet Flavia Pennetta at Flushing Meadows.

Both the men’s and women’s semi-finals will now be played on Friday.

With the women’s semis now pencilled in for a 4pm Nigerian time start, the men’s semis have been pushed back to 8 pm Nigerian time also.

Marin Cilic is looking to defend his title against top seed Novak Djokovic, while Roger Federer is in action against Swiss compatriot Stan Wawrinka.
