2017 AFCON: We Will Fly Over The Pharaohs – Ahmed Musa

2 Min Read

Super Eagles stand in captain, Ahmed Musa is confident the Super Eagles will fly over the Pharaohs of Egypt when both sides meet next year.

He further admonished his colleagues to remain focused ahead of Nigeria’s final four matches in Group G of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

Musa, who captained the Eagles in the absence of goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, in Saturday’s qualifying game away to Tanzania, says only “total focus” will see the three-time African champions book a ticket for the finals in Gabon.

“We have to focus on ourselves and not what our group opponents do,” the CSKA Moscow man said.

Egypt has already installed itself as first favourite to claim the group’s sole automatic ticket following convincing wins over Tanzania and Chad – sides the Super Eagles struggled against.

Musa, however, claimed that his teammates are not concerned with how the Pharaohs fare in its group matches. We followed (Egypt’s) game against Chad (on Sunday) but we are not under any pressure.

“It was a good game for them because they won 5-1 but for us, we are only thinking about the two games we will play against them both at home and away. We don’t have to think about Egypt but concentrate on ourselves.

“We have the quality and we believe in our coaches. Hopefully, we can do it and make our country proud,” he said.

Nigeria has amassed four points from its first two AFCON qualifying games after beating Chad 2-0 on match day one and drawing 0-0 with Tanzania on match day two.
