Nigeria’s special military task force, the Joint Task Force, has confirmed that twin suicide attacks targeting the offices of Airtel and MTN, both telecommunications company, occurred yesterday in Kano.
The spokesman of the JTF, Capt. Ikedichi Iweha confirmed the death of the bombers in the attack.
He disclosed that the first bomber went into the office of Airtel, which is located at the popular Malam Kato Square, near the main branch of a bank and detonated his bombs around 8.45am. The only injured person was the generator operator.
However, the other suicide bomber targeting the offices of MTN, at Maimalari Road in Bompai area could not gain entry into the offices as he was stopped by security operatives at around 8.50am. the blast instantly killed him.
He commended the quick response of the troops in the area which prevented the office being destroyed, although the wall fence was affected by the blast.
He also said security has been increased in the two areas to reinforce security.
An eyewitness said that a loud blast was heard around the Airtel office at 8.45am, following which the whole place burst into flames.
Traders around the area locked up their shops immediately and fled following the attacks while members of the JTF cordoned off the area.
No group is yet to claim responsibility for the attacks.
