A crucial meeting was held on Friday between President Goodluck Jonathan, the leadership of the National Assembly, members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples’ Democratic Party and some of its governors.
The meeting, which lasted for about three hours, deliberated on issues concerning the need for political office holders to align their positions and agenda to conform with the party’s vision for the people in the coming year.
The meeting was also said to have tackled the disparity in the 2013 budget approved by the NASS from the one Jonathan presented to it in his budget proposal.
The NASS had increased the budget by N63 billion to N4.987 trillion, up from the N4.924 trillion presented to it by Jonathan.
The House of Representatives had reduced the recurrent expenditure of N2.41 trillion by N100 billion, and added it to the capital expenditure of N1.54 trillion.
The discussion of budgetary issues was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Joy Emordi.
