Google’s Driverless Car Project Lauded

1 Min Read

Accolades have continued to trail the sophistication of the safety sensors installed on Google’s self-driving cars.

A cyclist in Austin, Texas, US, where the company is currently testing its self-driving cars prior to commercial roll out, wrote on a forum Road Bike Review about his experience with a Google prototype car.

“It apparently detected my presence … and stayed stationary for several seconds. It finally began to proceed, but as it did, I rolled forward an inch while still standing. The car immediately stopped…

“I continued to stand, it continued to stay stopped. Then as it began to move again, I had to rock the bike to maintain balance. It stopped abruptly,” he said.

The cyclist stated that, notwithstanding the minor challenges that Google may be facing with the cars testing, he felt “safer dealing with a self-driving car than a human-operated one.”
