Lagos State boxers are honing their skills to fight for the prestigious “Gov. Babatunde Fashola’s Belt,’’ scheduled for Boxing Day, Dec. 26, at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Yaba.
The competition, which is in its fourth edition, coincides with the 37th monthly “Saturday Boxing Show’’ being promoted by the Lagos State Boxing Hall of Fame (LSBHF).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the boxers from Lagos State topped the medals table in the boxing events at the 18th National Sports Festival which ended in Lagos on Dec. 9.
They won eight of the 20 gold medals on offer and a silver each in the male and female boxing categories at the Games, tagged “Eko 2012’’.
Wasiu Bisiriyu, Head Coach, Lagos State Amateur Boxing Association (LSABA), told NAN on Monday in Lagos that 20 boxers would be contesting for the belt.
According to him, the boxers who have just finished from the sports festival, are not tired and are in the best form to give a good account of themselves at the competition.
“Twenty boxers are putting finishing touches to their training to fight for Gov. Fashola’s Belt on Boxing Day.
