President Buhari Has Brought Credibility, Strong Leadership Within 100 Days – Ambode

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode

The Lagos State Governor Akinwumi Ambode has said that President Muhammadu Buhari within 100 days of assuming power had brought credibility, integrity into public office and strong leadership which had shown purposeful direction to all Nigerians.

The governor also praised the president for coming up with moral leadership that is required to fight corruption in the country.

Ambode, who was part of the delegation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) that visited President Buhari on Tuesday, stated this in an interview with State House journalists after the meeting.

He said President Buhari’s leadership style was being witnessed in states of the federation as everyone was beginning to feel obliged to obey the rule of law.

Ambode said: “What President Muhammadu Buhari has come up with in the last 100 days is about credibility and integrity for those of us who are in public office. Buhari has come up with moral leadership in the last 100 days, and that is what is needed to fight corruption in the country.

“Nobody is judging anyone. What we have seen since May 29 is about strong leadership that has shown direction to all Nigerians. The mantra of such leadership that is being reflected by the president is what we’re seeing in other states. Everybody is beginning to feel that they must obey the rule of law. All revenue agencies are now paying to a single account and that makes everyone to be accountable”.

Meanwhile, Ambode, on Tuesday, urged members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to key into the ongoing anti-corruption and re-orientation efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ambode, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 45th Annual Conference of ICAN, held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, said the pivotal role played by accountants in the day-to-day running of government, calls on them to be above board in discharging their duties.

“I once heard someone say that “only accountants can save the world – through peace, goodwill and reconciliations. That tells me that the people who can save Nigeria are in this hall today”, he said.

“We must kick-start that process now by developing mechanisms that will make it compelling for members of the Institute to exhibit a high level of integrity, wherever we find ourselves.”

“As custodians and managers of financial resources, we must be above board and resist the temptation to compromise our professional ethics and personal integrity. This, I believe, should be our focus, as we begin the journey of another fifty years”, he said.
