Adnan Janujaz scored the only goal as United secure second successive 1-0 win and go top for first time in almost two years
Manchester United extended their unbeaten record at Villa Park to 20 matches as they beat Aston Villa with a 29th-minute Adnan Januzaj goal.
The Belgium star threaded a shot through three players after being set up by Juan Mata as United made it two 1-0 wins on the bounce.
Villa, who had won their opening Premier League match at Bournemouth, never really threatened to hit back.
Louis Van Gaal said: “The start to the season is better than last year but that is not so difficult. We had one point at this stage and now we have six, so I am very happy.
“There is still a long way to go. You cannot expect it with only four weeks preparation. You need more matches to come in the form I think we can show.”
Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood said: “I am disappointed with the result, I thought we nullified them, but it is to be expected, we have a lot of players out there trying to find their feet in English football. We will improve.
“It is hard to judge us against Manchester United, but it was not what I was looking for. We could be a bit more potent in the final third.”
