The Peoples Democratic Party has said that the party must retain Kogi state so as to send a message to the All Progressives Congress that there will be another change come 2019.
As part of the efforts to reclaim power, the party has charged the post-election probe panel set up to look into why APC won in 2015 and also to make appropriate recommendations on 2019 elections.
While addressing journalists at a meeting with North-central members of the PDP, the Chairman of the North-central post- election sub-committee, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha said the mistakes the party has made in the past are being corrected.
Ihedioha said “The party cannot afford to lose in some state elections including Kogi State, which is expected to hold next year.
“Governorship election will hold in Kogi State this year and we want to send the message to the APC that Kogi State is a no go area for them. PDP must retain Kogi State.”
Meanwhile PDP governors have urged the newly appointed acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mrs. Amina Bala Zakari to resign because of conflict of interest as a result of her relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement released in Abuja by the media office of the governors of the opposition party and signed by Patrick Okon, the PDP Governors’ Forum said “The honourable thing for Mrs. Zakari to do is to recuse herself of this role, as nobody who knows the level of her relationship with the president can believe she will be impartial in her conduct of any matter that the president has vested interest in.
“In this case, the success of APC over the PDP in any election especially with the governorship elections coming up in Bayelsa and Kogi States.”
