Osun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested no fewer than 102 drug suspects in the state between January till date.
Besides, a total of 152.34kg of Cannabis Sativa (india hemp) and 24.3 grams of psychotropic substances were also seized under the period in review.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, Mrs Egwunwoke Ekaete, the Osun State Commander of NDLEA, said those arrested while carrying out their nefarious activities in the state comprised 89 males and 13 females.
She said the command had convicted 18 of those arrested to various terms of imprisonment, counseled 37 drug users, while the remaining 47 suspects are undergoing prosecution at the Osogbo Federal High Court.
She posited that excessive materialism among other factors forced many into drug trafficking and added that NDLEA would not rest on its oars while merchants of death carried on with their dastardly enterprise.
According to her, the harmful effects of illicit drug dealing were enormous and anybody willing to do something good with his life should avoid them.
“Drugs do not make heroes. Drug addiction and trafficking do not make people successful but rather make them prisoners,”she said.
