Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has said that his administration did not meet any seven billion in the state account as the previous administration claimed, the treasury was in debit when they came on board.
Wike made this statement at the Government House in Port Harcourt during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and two construction firms, Julius Berger and a Chinese Construction firm, CCECC, for the rehabilitation of 33 kilometres of township roads in the state capital.
Wike said “I want to say on good authority that we did not meet any N7bn, as being speculated. The state’s FAAC account as at May 29 (2015) was in debit. That was the briefing I received from the Accountant-General.”
He explained that his administration will focus on rebuilding road infrastructure in the state.
Meanwhile while speaking when some members of the Delta State House of Assembly paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt said that he has the peoples mandate.
Wike said “We are not worried by their (APC) claim that they have the tribunal. All we know is that Rivers State will always remain a PDP state. The people are with us.
“While the APC were busy embarking on negative propaganda because they had excess money, we were with the people at the grassroots selling our programmes to them. That was why they voted for us massively.”
Wike assured the legislators that he will ensure the independence of the legislature.
He said “You don’t need to pocket the legislature before you think you are safe in government. What is needed is cooperation with the state Assembly in the interest of good governance.”
