2 Min Read

Police detectives at the Delta state police Command Asaba on Monday raided flash points of suspected cultists in Ogwashi-uku, Ughelli and its environs and arrested no fewer than twenty-one of them.

It was reliably gathered that the suspects were on convocation in their hideouts when the detectives acted on a tip-off to swoop on them.

As it were, cult-related activities have been thriving in Agbor community, Ogwashi-uku, Asaba and its environs, as in most cases their activities result in panic and fear of the unknown.

Competent police sources at the Police State CID said the suspects upon interrogation confessed to be students who were wooed into the secret society by their friends who had been senior members of various secret societies over the years.

Investigations revealed that Aye and Eiye confraternity are most prominent secret societies across the state, with a group of some highly placed personalities including prodigal children as members.

DSP Celestina Kalu, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said the Police were determined to make the state crime free, especially cultism and its related act.

She said that the Police raided their hideouts on a tip-off, adding that they recovered battle axes, charms, six cut to size guns, disclosing that investigation was on going to ascertain their involvement before they could be charged to court.
