Suspect Dies In Sokoto NSCDC Custody

2 Min Read

A 38-year-old man, Jamilu Abdullahi of Danbuwa area, Sokoto metropolis, has been confirmed death while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Confirming the death, Sokoto State commandant of the NSCDC, Bello Musa, said that a committee had been set up to unravel the mystery behind Abdullahi’s death.

The deceased, the bread winner of the family of nine, according to his the mother, Binta Abdullahi, was a graduate of the College of Agriculture, Bakura, Zamfara State, and works with Tureta local government of Sokoto State.

“I can authoritatively confirm the death of the deceased after he was arrested by operatives of the Corps at the Sokoto South local government Division in Sokoto folowing a complaint of a misunderstanding lodged by his neighbour, Amina Mohammed.

“But it is untrue that personnel of the corps killed him. The ongoing investigations will reveal the cause of his death. Any officer who might be indicted by the ongoing investigations will face the wrath of the law,’’ Musa asserted.

The commandant further said that the corpse of the suspect was rejected by his family on the grounds that they suspected a foul play, hence the corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, pending the obtaining of his death certificate.

But the deceased’s mother insists her son died at UDUTH, Sokoto, on May 29 after he was tortured by men of the NSCDC, and called for justice to be done in the matter.
