Onyema Chukwu, a 27 year old man, was on Wednesday charged before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly robbing one Alhaji Alkali Alhammed of his $700,000 US Dollars.
The suspect was alleged to have committed the offence at Volkswagen area of Lagos, while armed with one AK47 rifle loaded with sixty rounds of ammunition.
Chukwu was arraigned by the police on a two-court charge of conspiracy and stealing.
According to the charge, Onyema Chukwu with others (still at large), armed themselves with one AK47 rifle loaded with sixty rounds of ammunition and robbed the sum of seven hundred thousand US Dollars of Alhammed.
Inspector Chinanu Uwadione, Police prosecutor, informed the court that the offence is contrary to Section 5(b) and punishable under Section 1(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap.398 vol.XX11 of the federation of Nigeria 1990 as amended.
The accused however pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Magistrate O.A. Akinde.
The magistrate rejected the plea pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and adjourned to May 11, 2015.
