National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu, has said that the party is heading for overwhelming victory on Saturday because the party has a formidable support base in all six-geopolitical zones.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, who read a speech on behalf of Mu’azu in Abuja said “I can therefore most confidently assure you that with the support of Nigerians, we are headed for an overwhelming victory at the presidential and National Assembly elections come Saturday, the 28th of March 2015.
“Our support base in all the states and the six geo-political zones are formidable. We have worked hard and we will win fair and square.
“Not only that, we will give the opposition a crushing defeat in our original states of Sokoto, Kano, Nasarawa, Edo, Rivers, Imo and Kwara; we are also headed for a sweeping victory in the South-west and the northern states of the federation including states regarded as the strongholds of the opposition.
“In the South-west, apart from the fact that we are in control of Ekiti and Ondo States, we are set to win in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Osun States where we have worked hard to secure the support of the people.
“The north remains a stronghold of the PDP with solid political structures oiled over the years in all the electoral wards and local governments in the region.
“Our capacity for a sweeping victory is buoyed by the various tangible development projects that have hugely affected the lives of ordinary Nigerians in the region, a factor that has put us in good stead to win back our original states as well as others considered to be fortresses of the opposition.
“We ran orderly campaign based only on issues, devoid of unnecessary political mudslinging and acts of desperation, especially seeing the fact that a majority of the Nigerian voting population is solidly behind PDP.
“Our campaigns and rallies have been greeted by the turnout of millions of Nigerians, men and women of good faith, citizens who cherish democracy and the indivisibility of our great nation, the cardinal values of the PDP as the only true democratic party committed to the national interest.
“We ran a very vigorous campaign based on sincerity and truth. We could not have done otherwise. We placed before Nigerians an array of credible candidates and records of verifiable achievements of our elected and appointed officers especially our standard-bearer, President Goodluck Jonathan.”
Meanwhile Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) has adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the presidential elections.
National Chairman, Comrade Peter Ameh, while addressing journalists at the PPA national secretariat in Abuja said “We adopted President Jonathan in line with the spirit of progressive continuity.
“This transformational reforms cut across all sectors of our society from power with the building of dams in some major part of the country including Gombe and Taraba States among others to meet our agricultural and energy needs.”
“As it has come to our notice, the lies and blackmail being told to Nigerians by the so called ‘change advocates’ although we rather call them ‘opposition of growth’.
“We wish to tell Nigerians that nothing changes because elements who have contributed to our regression in the past are now parading themselves as ‘change agents’.”
